PICKETT CCC MEMORIAL STATE PARK

Pickett CCC Memorial State Park seems to be a less visited one. Probably because it’s a bit out of the way for most residents of Tennessee. It’s located in Jamestown, TN, which is a part of the Cumberland Plateau. You can easily notice the vegetation and landscape change a bit once you enter the town after leaving Middle TN. This was a quick weekend trip for us, so we only camped one night. We got there right before sunset, and unfortunately, right after the camp store had closed… so no firewood. Whomp whomp. (We do that more than we care to admit). There were pop up showers on the forecast, so we rushed to set up the tent.

The showers quickly passed, so we decided to run into town to get firewood from Tractor Supply. Then we headed back to our campsite to make dinner. A funny aside - while cooking hot dogs on the fire pit, my hot dog fell into the fire. This normally would not be a big deal, but there are occasional bears in Jamestown, so we were a bit concerned about the smell attracting them. We ended up eating the rest of our dinner in the car, which was probably a huge overreaction. haha.

The next morning, we packed up the tent and headed farther into the park, to the canoeing area. We brought our inflatable kayak, but they do have canoes, paddle boats, and paddle boards to rent if needed.

This state park, canoeing included, is super kid-friendly! The water is very shallow and calm. There’s a very simple path to follow that takes you through an awesome tunnel. It would be a great spot to bring a picnic and spend the day!
